Superkreme is poised to achieve national exposure with their
self-titled debut release on Acme Entertainment, Inc. A spirited
popcraft, Superkreme, will alert jaded ears everywhere with it's
instant appeal and edgy musical performance. Produced by Mitch
Easter (R.E.M., Pavement, Velvet Crush), the disc emphasizes
glistening guitars, penetrating vocals and a bright tunefulness.
Superkreme features the songwriting talents of Matt Sobol
and Susan Rasch. The two trade off on lead vocals drawing the
audience in by their dual hypnosis. Matt's songs are characterized
by his lyrical stream of conscience which serves as a means for
him to find the answers to life's most perplexing issues. He
jokes, (in that sort of joking but not really kind of way) "Writing
songs each night in bed is the cheapest form of therapy when
trying to make sense of all my experiences." Susan's compositions,
while a bit darker than Matt's, are still very catchy pop tunes.
She explains that her musical expressions come from the isolated
corners of one's mind where few individuals chance to travel.
She digs deep to bring to the surface those intentionally buried
memories which either pissed her off, or bummed her out, or both.
Prior to forming Superkreme, each of the current band members
paid their dues playing with some of Ohio's most promising acts
of the early 90's. Matt was the frontman for The Waynes, one
of the most successful indie bands to break out of Cleveland.
The Waynes toured nationally and enjoyed opening slots for Sarah
McLachlan, Tori Amos and Toad the Wet Sprocket. While Paul Lewis
and Jeff Harmon were refining their driving rhythm chops in Jehova
Waitresses (ShimmyDisc Records) and sharing bills with Jewel,
Del Amitri and Juliana Hatfield, Susan was leading her band,
Rasch. The individual band members came together in January of
1997 after years of hangin' out and supporting each other in
their local club scene.
Over the years, the members of Superkreme have been forging
their way towards national acclaim by touring in over 65 cities;
sharing the stage with platinum-selling artists, most recently,
Matchbox 20; garnering college and commercial radio play in and
around the midwest; collectively selling over 18,000 copies of
their self-released LPs; and accruing a mailing list of over
15,000 fans! |
