Fat Nut
Fat Nut
Fat Nut is a five member band of native Chicago musicians whose
members have been studying and playing classical or jazz for years.
This combination of musical backgrounds, styles, and experience
are what give the band it's truly unique sound. Their music is
characterized by the sweet uplifting melodies from the steel drums
fused with the thick intricate guitar work and tight rhythm section;
creating a pop/rock-jazz flavor.
Fat Nut as a band dates back to the summer of 1993 when Ray
Ekberg and Kitty Boulais happened upon a trio playing jazz in
an art gallery. This trio, Lorn Allison on guitar, Stewy on steel
drums, and Barret Harvey on drums, took immediately to the suggestion
that they all get together and Fat Nut was born. They played their
first gig one month later at the Avalon Niteclub in Chicago.
The shows and crowds increase steadily as the months fly by.
They can be found performing at some of themidwest's premier venues,
including: Metro, Double Door, The Paramount Music Hall, Morseland,
The Elbo Room, Thurstons and other Chicagoland and Midwestern
locations.
As the band's popularity has increased, so too have the requests
for special appearances. The band has given, and will continue
to give, their time and talents to a number of charity events
for the homeless and children's organizations; as well as various
music festivals throughout the Midwest. The positive energy of
the music always brings a smile to the enraptured audience; driving
the band towards their ultimate goal: Everybody, "Feel the
Nut".
The band signed on with Acme Entertainment, Inc. in January
1995. With their first CD LP release entitled "Organically
Grown", Fat Nut firmly planted their feet on the ladder to
success. A positive breath of fresh air in a market where the
alternative has become the norm. Crack open the Fat Nut and enjoy
a new, refreshing, revolutionary musical experience.
